We at Lyons Wilson would like to inform you about our price and service information for certain legal services. We understand how important costs are and want to make sure that you understand how we charge you for our services, explaining how we calculate our fees, the likely costs of running and preparing your case. We will also let you know about any additional charges to you, and any costs which may be recoverable from a third party.
Depending on the type of case you have, we would normally explore and discuss with you a number of funding options including:-
1. Fixed Fees - If we offer a fixed fee for your type of case, then this will be offered to you and discussed with you.
2. Legal Expense Insurance - We will discuss with you whether you have any legal expenses insurance to cover this type of claim. Legal Expense Insurance can often be found on your home contents insurance and may cover you for a number of different types of disputes including Employment, Breach of Contract etc. If you have this type of cover then it may be used to cover all or part of your legal costs and also may cover you for the risk that you may be liable for the other parties costs. However we will consider your policy and advise you further on it, if you have one.
3. Hourly Rate - This is the most common form of paying for our services. You will be informed of the likely overall costs of your case where ever possible, even if this is an estimate. You will be informed about the hourly rate of the fee earner who will be working on your file together with information on their experience and qualifications. You will then be charged for every hour or part of an hour that your fee earner spends on your matter. VAT of 20% will always be added to those charges. So that you can keep on top of things, you will be invoiced on a monthly basis and our invoice will set out what we have done and how may hours each fee earner has spent on your matter. You are expected to pay that invoice on receipt.
4. No Win No Fee Arrangement (Conditional and Contingency Fee Agreement ) - This option is available only in certain cases after we have reviewed and assessed your case and agree to take it on that basis. If you do not win your case you do not have to pay us our fees, however if you win your case then we take a percentage of your damages limited to 30% in Employment Cases.
Our hourly rates range from £118.00 per hour to £250.00 per hour plus VAT depending on the fee earner/solicitor working on your matter.
For example we would normally expect of fees to be within the following ranges:
Probate (not contested) £1,000.00 to £5,000.00 plus VAT and Disbursments such as probate fee and oath fee usually ranging from £150-£250.
Employment Tribunal - £1,500.00 to £15,000.00 plus VAT and Counsel's fees usually in the region of between £750.00 to £3,000.00 plus VAT
Debt Recovery - £50.00 to £20,000.00 plus VAT and Disbursments such as court fees depending on the amount you are claiming.
